Should Nintendo make a Pokémon game for the Nintendo Wii?

Pokémon games have been capturing the imagination and attention of millions of Pokemon Masters since 1996 and since then the video games based upon the popular tv show have hit the ground running. There’s been the main games such as Red & Blue, Pokémon Puzzle Challenge, Mystery Dungeon, Pokémon Dash, Pokémon Trozei, Pokémon Ranger, Pokémon Conquest among many other games, all of which provide hours of entertainment and fun. What is the one type of game that has been missing from this vast catalogue of games though?…. A Pokémon game on a non hand-held console.

While we have had good console based games such as Pokémon Stadium 1 & 2 on the Nintendo 64.

Pokémon Colosseum on the Nintendo Gamecube.

And even Pokémon Battle Revolution on the Nintendo Wii.

All of which are good games in their own rights, the one game we have lacked that every Pokémon fan worldwide would love would be a game quite like Red & Blue on a console such as the Wii, or the Wii-U.  A scaled up version of the hand-held games on the bigger consoles. Nintendo would be able to tap into so many childhoods and bring in so many new fans of the series if they released such a game.

Picture this, you are at home, in your sitting room or bedroom wherever the console is set up. You have it hooked up to a nice big TV, you have just started your adventure in the Console version of Pokémon. You choose your starter Pokémon, then your rival challenges you to a battle to see who picked the better starter, and you arrive at the above image.

This is where Nintendo make use of the motion sensor bar and the Wii Remote. While you may not be able to catch a Bulbasaur in the wild, for this example we’ll say you can. It is weakened to the point that it’s nearly KO’d, you select Pokéball from your bag, rear back your hand with the remote in it, and as you swing forward you release the A button throwing the Pokéball at the Bulbasaur, and presto you catch it.

Nintendo could really produce a home run if they made such a game. The use of the Wii Remote wouldn’t stop with the throwing of Pokéball, the could use the remote and the motion sensor bar for stuff such as cycle, surfing on a Pokémon, or even flying on a Pokémon, the player through the interactivity of the Wii could control these actions are move the characters themselves. They could also set the game in the first person, so that gamers can see what the Pokémon trainers see as they see it.

There would so many more ways of incorporating the wii remote and the motion sensor, the possibilities would be endless and there would be such a huge demand for such a game, Nintendo would stand to make millions worldwide if they created this game. We here at Nerd Lowdown would certainly buy it, such a game would give this nerd a reason to use his Nintendo Wii again as it is gathering dust at the moment.

Maybe however Nintendo don’t plan on ever bringing Pokémon to the Ninento Wii, the direct translation of Pokémon is Pocket Monsters, and maybe that is what they will always be, nothing more than a hand held phenomenon.

What do you think? is it time Nintendo gave us a larger scale Red & Blue? Would you play it? Let us know.
